Attend Town Hall Meetings
Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will hold public town hall meetings in July before the Iowa Education Summit to listen to Iowans’ ideas about how to create world-class schools.
While Iowa has many good schools, our fall in the rankings on a highly regarded national test is alarming. Meanwhile, some other states adopted ambitious reforms, such as rigorous academic standards. Massachusetts led the way, and its students are first in the nation in reading and math.
The summit focus is threefold: (1) increasing teacher and principal effectiveness; (2) raising academic standards and putting in place strong matching assessments; and (3) innovation that increases learning. The summit will be held July 25-26 in Des Moines. Online registration will end July 10th. The summit is open to the public as long as space is available, so please consider attending.
And please attend a town hall meeting to share your ideas about how to improve education. It will take a broad consensus to make meaningful change. Your involvement is important.
